Two days before tennis star Sania Mirza's engagement, a youth who claim to be in love with her was arrested Wednesday for allegedly creating nuisance at her residence here.
Police said Mohammed Ashraf, 28, late Tuesday created a scene at the player's residence claiming that he is in love with Sania. The civil engineering student from Kerala demanded that her engagement be cancelled.
Ashraf along with his friend D. Mohanty went to Sania's house and had a heated argument with her father Imran Mirza. They demanded Imran cancel Sania's engagement.
India's number one woman tennis player's engagement is scheduled July 10 with Sohrab Mirza, son of a local businessman.
On a complaint from Imran Mirza, a case was registered at the Banjara Hills police station. Police Wednesday arrested Ashraf for trespass and making threatening calls to the player. He will be brought to a court later in the day.
Asharf told police that he was in love with Sania and wanted to marry her. On learning about Sania's scheduled engagement with a local man, Asharf and his friend went to her house to demand that the engagement be cancelled.
A police officer quoted Asharf as saying that he saw Sania playing in a tournament in Bangalore and fell in love with her. He was also sending messages and making threatening calls to Sania on her mobile phone.
Policemen were posted at Sania's house after the incident.
When Akshay Kumar decided to throw his first party in Bollywood to celebrate the opening collections of his "Kambakkht Ishq", he made it a point to invite Shah Rukh Khan even though the superstar was far away in San Francisco.
"Yes, I did call Shah Rukh Khan to invite him. When Kareena and I suddenly decided on Sunday evening to have a party, we decided we'd invite the entire industry. This wasn't a party to celebrate our success alone.
It was also a party to celebrate the success of 'New York' as much as my own film. So, apart from me and Kareena, the party's unofficial hosts were Katrina (Kaif), John (Abraham) and the entire 'New York' team, " said Akshay.
Akshay has often accused members of the film industry of trying to sabotage his films but he still wanted everyone to come together for the success of two films following a slump.
"I want them to celebrate any success and not be happy when films fail. When 'New York' was released, SMS messages against the film were sent out.
The same thing is happening with my film. Why be negative? Specially when I've always been happy for all my colleagues' successes?" Akshay asked.
"So yes, I personally called up Shah Rukh and all my colleagues for the party. But he's shooting in San Francisco...There will be plenty more occasions, I'm sure, " the actor said.
The party hosted at the Marriott Hotel Monday night was Akshay's first ever.
"I completely shy away from parties. But this time I think we all needed to express solidarity and happiness over the end of the prolonged slump, " he said.
The impromptu party was Kareena's idea. "We quickly drew up a list. She invited her friends. I invited mine. Then we began making the calls. Then there was Tina (wife Twinkle) who called her friends. That just about covered the whole industry, " Akshay added.
And how was the party?
"No drinking for me. But a lot of dancing. It was a lot of fun, " the star said.
Katrina: Call me Desirable not Sexy
We thought Katrina and Kareena have made peace with each other but then you shouldn't believe every thing you hear.
Elated with the rave reviews she got for acting, Katrina at a recent press meet, announced that she doesn't need to wear a short skirt or show her legs to get audiences to go for her film or to love her. Apparently, she was taking a dig at Kareena, who donned a bathing suit in her latest movie Kambakkht Ishq.
Tell her that she too has recently topped a poll for the Sexiest Asian Woman... and Kat says, "I think it was Race that tilted the scale. My fans saw a different Katrina and they liked her. But I think here people vote for who they like as opposed to the west where they are governed by the definition of the word.
Personally, I’d prefer being called desirable to sexy since I don’t want to alienate my family audience. Maybe 20 years from now, I’ll find it sweet."
In case you're wondering why Katrina is fiddling with fire, we have two words for you - New York. The film has won Kat accolades not just for her beauty but this time also for her talent as an actress.
If sources are to be believed, it was during an event recently for the special screening of Kareena's latest flick ‘Kambakkht Ishq’, that Bebo and Kat could be seen literally avoiding each other.
Reports reveal that Akshay Kumar was hosting the show and along with him, there was Katrina Kaif and his good friend Riteish Deshmukh. While Katrina bonded with Riteish, Kareena was nowhere to be seen.
Grapevine has it that Kareena, who arrived late and made a quiet entry, left mid-way, while Katrina sat through the entire film.
